We are not runners

Or should I say we have never been ‘serious’ runners. I don’t think it would of crossed either of our minds to actually take up running, if it wasn’t for our other brother doing the Great South Run for a few years before.

The first event I took part in was just after my Dad died and it was the race for life 5k with my Sister, in which we walked the majority of it. After that my brother (the runner) tried to convince us to take part in the Great South Run with him. I told him that I would only do it if we did it in fancy dress (thinking that he would never agree) but in 2016, Tinkerbelle, Captain Hook and Peter Pan AKA me and my brothers took our place at the starting line. The preparation for the run was the making of the costumes and no running at all. However we completed the run, promising to do more training for that year. As Buzz, Woody and Jessie took the starting line we were no more ready for the run as the year before.

We have taken part in more running events dressing up each time as Pirates, Winnie the Pooh and Piglet, Marie Antoinette and the executioner but our running training has been the same, very little if at all.
It is not as if we are completely unfit. Our childhood was very active with dancing and swimming and I go to the gym once a week with a PT trainer who if it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t of been fit enough to get through my first run. And last year was the first time we did a bit of training outside running by taking part in the weekly park run.

So Why The Challenge?

This is something we have been talking about doing for a while, to raise as much as we can for a charity. Why this year? Becomes it gets to a point when you end up talking more about doing it and never do it. By making the blog forces us the actually train. We have already signed up for the following runs.

Portsmouth Coastal Half Marathon – Sunday 3rd February
St David’s Day (10k) – Thursday 1st March
St Patrick’s Day (10k) – Sunday 17th March
St Georges Day (10k) – Tuesday 23rd April
Pieces of Eight (8 miles) – Sunday 6th October
Great South Run (10 miles) – Sunday 20th November
Horror Movie (5 miles) – Friday 1st November
St Andrew’s Day (10k) – Saturday 30th November
We are also looking at other running events throughout the year.

Why Carers UK?
We chose this charity as being a carer has been a big part of our family life. When someone in the household needs that level of care all focus goes to that person, the people around that person is always on duty, and although we have no regrets it can be completely physically and emotionally exhorting not to mention isolating. By supporting Carers UK we are helping those who need that little bit of support so that they can do the best they can for the people they love. We have a just giving page if you want to sponsor us.

Thank you for supporting our journey.

Till next time

Kirsty
